So the bus we are on from Yamanashi to Tokyo has a third pedal! I saw the driver shifting. Looks to be a 6 speed from the knob I see. I think the bus is a Toyota.

Murican busses used to have third pedals too :(
They were just going out of style when I was in school.

In Fiji we had buses with UD (Nissan Diesel) and Hino (Toyota) chassis, both with third pedals...however, they were a bit more rudimentary...

Some private buses are still manual, usually with a long lever sprouting from the floor. That ones probably power assisted.

Yeah, has a proper pedal too, not some kind of auto clutch. I didnt even notice for a half hour and then I noticed the driver shifting.

I went rafting once in PA and all of the shuttle busses were 3 pedal. They were all yellow busses so they must have been school busses in the past. Definitely made me want to own a turbo diesel school bus with a manual. Would be a great vehicle to convert into an RV.
